September - the new Springtime?
27th September 2013
Morning all,
Looks like it's going to be warm and muggy into at least next week. I always enjoy this time of the year - and the garden is really loving it too. We were so struck last week by the colour and new blooms that have newly appeared - or are continuing to flourish with vigour! Albeit, I feel a little sorry for the confused little Crocus, starting to poke through the soil!
We had some good news from the RHS It's Your Neighbourhood competition - the garden received a Level 3 (out of 5) 'Developing' rating and increased our points from last year to 66 - three points off the next level. So close..! They had some nice comments about the variety of plants we're growing this year and liked the tall grasses, hollyhocks and teasels, in particularly, which gave depth to the garden.
I particularly liked this observation from our judge:
"The footfall is frequent and varied. During my visit there was a man writing a report, 2 picnickers and a restaurant owner, who asked where to find out how to set up such a garden, as it was a big improvement to the area".
We do have nice neighbours!
We're going to pick some herbs and nip along to the Tooting Foodival cook-up on Saturday, to add our incredients for their local food festival.
It's going to be a lovely sunny day on Sunday so do pop along to the garden - with your picnics, if you like! - and enjoy a bit of Autumn preparation.
Best wishes
Miranda
