Elliott Erwitt
If you're a fan of Elliott Erwitt's you should check out this blog post on Slate. Erwitt is  brilliant at catching the odd or telling moment.

One thing about Erwitt's pictures is you are often left wondering - was that staged? what is that man doing? why????

While you're on Slate also check out the photo blog post on Athletes.

So...why are these people dressed like this in the middle of an afternoon on a city street?

And who lives in the needle and pin house??

The sun was beautiful this late afternoon. After dropping off my photographs for the upcoming show I walked through the fields. This was taken on the side of the grapes opposite the sun - the dark side - which gave translucence to the grapes at the edge.

UPCOMING and You're Invited

Millbrook Winery Art in the Loft

September 23-November 9
Opening September 29, 3-5pm

You drive through a working vineyard, when I dropped off two pieces for the show grapes were heavy on the vine, both red and white. Once the show is up you can vote on an image to use on one of their wine bottles. Vote for me! I'm not making any election promises! Millbrook Winery,  Millbrook, NY.

Merwinsville Hotel Restoration
October 12-14
Gala Preview Reception ($25 donation) October 11, 6:30-9:30

This is a show I really enjoy. It's set in a historic building that was a train and stage stop in Gaylordsville, CT. A little rough around the edges, the hotel is a National Historic Landmark.

ArtEast Open Studio Tour
October 19, 20 and 26, 27
11am-5pm

John and I are signed up for both weekends. He has some new, really interesting, black and white work he'll be showing. I'm printing some of my night work and working on ideas for new work.

And then there's the Where's George project I want to update...and the  corn husk dolls...

I was pretty amazed to see fireworks exploding over the village sky in Pawling this summer. Brought to mind all sorts of crazy scenarios about explosions and people just going about their business.

My friend, Diana Hartel, is a scientist and an artist. She recently wrote an article about nuclear energy and bombs and their awful consequences. She created a series of beautiful watercolors of explosions to accompany the article. When the U.S. was testing the atom bomb in New Mexico they built towns to test what would happen. Survival towns I believe they called them. Brought this series to mind.
