JETAA Ottawa members were invited to meet with Japan's First Lady Akie Abe, spouse of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, at Ambassador Norihiro Okuda's private residence in Ottawa on September 23rd.

Japan's Prime Minister Abe and the First Lady were on an official visit to Ottawa from September 23-24, 2013.

Authentic soba, sushi and nikujaga in Ottawa!? Meet the man who cooks up a storm for Japanese Ambassador Okuda. 

I interviewed Shoji Hamana, the Ambassador's resident chef. His recent collaborations with the JET community include assisting at the July cooking class for new JETs, as well as preparing the feast served at their Farewell Reception on August 2.

He was a fifth-year Fukui ALT; he is the founder behind Smile Kids Japan, a non-profit organization which encourages fellow JETs and others to lend their support at local Japanese orphanages; and he recorded a TEDxTokyo talk. 

In this instalment of "Where Are They Now?", JETAA Ottawa chats with alumnus Michael Maher King about his experiences on JET and beyond.
