OPENING THIS WEEK
Governor General’s Award nominated playwright Anusree Roy in Montreal with her play
Letters to my Grandma.
If you have had a chance to see the rehearsals of Letters to my Grandma like I have – you’d be buying your ticket right away. This play weaves together the stories of two women, a grandmother and her granddaughter. It is a story of Malobee, an Indian-born Canadian immigrant, who decides to marry with the blessing of her grandmother but not with her physical presence. Sehar Bhojani plays multiple characters and switches between them with ease.  The amazing chemistry between director Lib Spry and Sehar has made the process of producing this play a great experience for the veteran director and the fresh NTS graduate. Designer Stephanie Lambert has created a visually stunning set, including a traditional indian ‘charpoy’ which was built specifically for the play. Letters to My Grandma is 80 uninterrupted minutes of theatrical treat that is hilarious, disturbing and poignant.

Panel Discussions and Q&A
Experts and Community Leaders discuss the implications of the Quebec Charter of Values.
Letters to my Grandma is story of a young Indo-Canadian woman’s search for her identity through a discovery of her grandmother’s past, which was scarred by a political ‘solution’ that tore a country apart. Closer to home, the proposed Quebec Charter of Values, has sparked debate in the province about cultural and religious identity and its role in Quebec.
Human rights lawyer Julius Grey and an intercultural-interfaith panel discuss implications of the Quebec Charter of Values on the lives of minorities. Join us for these discussions:

Developing the next generation
Teesri regularly mentors emerging artists and creators through various internship, apprenticeship and coop programs. This year, in collaboration with The Other Theatre, we launch “Mentoring Diversity” -- two emerging directors, Davide Chiazzese and Julia Ainsworth, will present scenes from two different plays that each has been workshopping with Stacey Christodoulou.  Check out our website for more details about the presentations next week.
