Editorial
Holidays are over and WASTE is working in full swing again. We hardly can find the time to celebrate our 30 year anniversary, except this 12th of October when we participate in an event organized in Gouda, the Gouda Afvalmarkt. The whole Saturday is filled with activities about sustainability and WASTE will participate in the theme of recycling. Arts and crafts made from recyclables are for sale, a fashion show with recycled clothes takes place and much more. WASTE will show some films as well as display their prototype of a new emergency toilet and teach visitors to make wallets out of used milk cartons.
This bulletin is further filled with short stories and updates from our projects and programmes.
Feel free to pass this bulletin on to others, this can be done by using the link in the footer. If you have any comments please send them to webmaster@waste.nl

Gouda Afvalmarkt
WASTE would be thrilled to be able to see you at the Gouda Afvalmarkt on Saturday 12 October. It will be a full day of activities about waste and recycling of waste. In addition, WASTE is showing their prototype of a new toilet meant to be used for emergency sanitation. The invitees are asked for comments and input to improve the design before it goes into production.
The full programme can be found on the website of Gouda Wereldwijd. |

Think Piece of WASTE on Incineration and Energy
WASTE often hears the question: “what is your policy about incineration of waste? Is it a good idea for our country/city?”
A different but related question that we get is something like: “What is your policy on waste to energy? Isn’t it better to get energy from waste, than just to put it into the ground?”
WASTE has decided to put their ideas on paper and this Think Piece is part of this process. It is based on our 30 year experience of working on solid waste management in cities around the world.
The discussion within WASTE is ongoing, and we would like to get views and opinions of other players in the field of waste management.
The pdf can be downloaded from our website and by clicking here .
We welcome your comments, which you can send to vdevreede@waste.nl.

Project in Bo
WASTE is participating with WHH in a project to support the development of the solid waste management plan 2020 for Bo City in Sierra Leone. The first stakeholder meeting took place in May and it allowed everyone to become aware of the challenges ahead in order to develop a realistic plan for the city.
At this moment trained students and interns from Njala University are collecting data. The collected information will be processed at the WASTE office and presented as baseline studies for the plan 2020. |
