There already are four children waiting for Roots & Wings’ doors to open.

Yes, waiting.

Jesús is just 2 years old. He is the second youngest of four siblings. Jesús’ young, widowed mother, Susana, struggles to find anyone to look after her children while she’s at work. Jesús and his baby sister, Maria, 10 months, are passed around from home to home as Susana pleads with other women in the community to look after them.

On days when she is unable to find help, older brother Freddy, 7, stays home from school to look after his younger siblings, Jesús, Maria, and Fidel, 5, while Susana goes to work in the garbage dump. 

Freddy carries on his small shoulders the responsibility of caring for a family. He feeds and holds and changes his baby sister’s diapers. He makes sure little Jesús doesn't wander too far or get hurt. He watches over the family shack that is their home. 

 

You can very well imagine the fear that plagues Susana while she’s gone knowing her children are all alone.

The urgent need for the Roots & Wings daycare becomes more and more present as each week goes by. Please pray for these sweet, strong children that we already know and all the ones we have yet to meet.
