THE HALF MOON BAY BREWING COMPANY'S
"NOT FOR SALE ALE" TO BENEFIT
NOT FOR SALE IN FIGHT AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Not For Sale Gala to feature beer at event on October 5, and organization's
co-founder and president David Batstone joins Brews and Views on November 7

Half Moon Bay, Calif. – October 1, 2013 – In addition to being known for its wide selection of home-brewed craft beer and sustainable local seafood, the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company has a long history of supporting politically- and socially-relevant issues in the community. On Saturday, October 5, the Brewing Company will be working towards the end of human trafficking at the star-studded 2013 Not For Sale Gala in San Francisco with a limited-edition beer called Not For Sale Ale. Contrary to its name, the beer will also be for sale at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company until it taps out, with a percentage of the proceeds from every pint poured going to Not For Sale. The Brewing Company is also proud to welcome David Batstone, the founder and president of Not For Sale, to speak at a very special Brews and Views on Thursday, November 7.

In 2001, David Batstone discovered that his favorite restaurant had been the center of a local human trafficking ring, and ever since has made it his mission to create a world where no one is for sale. Not For Sale has gained worldwide recognition, and the Brewing Company is proud to be a part of the solution by creating a Not For Sale Ale. This British Style ESB is made with Cat’s Claw, a legendary Peruvian herb that is known to boost immunity, reduce pain and inflammation, and is responsibly harvested by a Not For Sale cooperative in Peru.

At the November 7 Brews and Views, the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company’s monthly speaker series, Lenny Mendonca will engage Not For Sale founder and president, David Batstone, in a discussion about fighting modern slavery around the globe using business creation, supply chain evaluation and aftercare aid. Brews and Views was created in November 2009 by Mendonca, who is co-owner of the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company and director of the San Francisco and Washington, D.C. offices of McKinsey & Company. For Mendonca, who grew up listening to Commonwealth Club forums on NPR, it’s an ideal way to involve the public in discussions about everything from economic development to social issues.

The often politically-charged Brews and Views events feature an initial conversation between the guest speaker and moderator, or a film screening, after which the public are invited to participate in a lengthy Q&A session. Previous notable guests include renowned forecaster Paul Saffo, managing director of foresight at Discern Analytics; Charles Kolb, president of the Committee for Economic Development; Mike McCurry, former press secretary for President Bill Clinton; Gina Giantz, political organizer and chair of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund; and professor and activist Aaron Belkin, author of “How We Won: Progressive Lessons From the Repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’”

The Brews and Views featuring Not For Sale’s David Batstone on Thursday, November 7, will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company (390 Capistrano Road, Half Moon Bay). Admission and snacks are complimentary and beer, wine and full menu are available for purchase.

Ten percent of the proceeds from all dinner sales at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company for all Brews and Views events are donated to the Cabrillo Education Foundation. To make a reservation or inquire about future Brews and Views topics please call 650-728-2739 or visit www.hmbbrewingco.com.

Previous Brews and Views are playing as a series on local television station, PCTV on Channel 27, Monday nights at 7pm. For additional videos, visit HMB Media at http://www.youtube.com/user/HMBMediaProductions
