There's plenty going on at SfP thanks to our wonderful supporters and there's lots to celebrate ...

Our numbers are growing steadily and we now support 55 families, with several new children waiting for an assessment.

Gym club now has 4 older children for the Saturday morning session and there's capacity in the afternoon group if you know of any children that may benefit. Ashton's mum is so inspired by his progress after just a few weeks that she's shaved all her hair off! (see below...)

Our speech therapy sessions on Mondays now help 14 children with Down's syndrome and we have capacity to work with 4 more children.

Our projects are developing to meet the need: We're purchasing new i-Pads and projectors to assist with our AAC project and our swimming group on a Thursday is expanding.  Erika takes the group on Thursday afternoons at Victoria Leisure Centre in the heated training pool and the children love it.

Please do keep spreading the word about the support we can provide as we know there are many more mums and dads 'out there' that don't yet know about us.

We can't provide support without adequate funding though, which for us (and many other charities) is increasingly hard to find, so we're working hard to bring in the '£s'.

Have you heard of The Big Give Christmas Challenge? We have been selected as one of the charities to benefit this year for our 'Little Swimmers' project (mentioned above), which costs us £13,000 per year to run.

We need to raise £5,000 in 'pledges' by 11 October which then need to be banked in December. These pledges are used to match online donations to our Big Give site, which are then also matched by a Big Give sponsor - what a fantastic scheme!

Please can you or any of your connections help us?  See our page here...

“You can take from me that this tiny place genuinely and fundamentally changes the lives of these special little children and the lives of their parents.  I know this because it's changed our lives and I've seen it change others' too. Some parents are really without hope before they find School for Parents. â€
It's the Robin Hood Marathon on 29 September... is it me, or has it come around again very quickly? Thanks to everyone that's taking part: the team from Nottingham City Homes (who have adopted us this year), Paul Jaworski's team, Matt Tandy (who's walking and playing a guitar), Heather Stapleton, Natasha Rose, Rob Wilson (still affected from having his appendix removed) and possibly Phil Avery, who has had a few sports injuries so may not make it. Thanks so much everyone, we really appreciate your support.

Our little girl Iris – 2 years old, bright, funny, determined and beautiful. One in a million, but not in the way anyone would hope for. She has a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy which means she can’t walk, crawl, get up or lie down on her own. She wakes up singing and goes to sleep smiling, but she will never run down a beach holding her sister's hand. It's the day to day life of other children that she can't have that is the heart breaker not the disability or her attitude to life. Robin Hood Half Marathon:

Misia, the owner of Soothe (Natural Rejuvenation & Relaxation Therapies) in West Bridgford held her launch last week and supported SfP too by holding a raffle which raised £200. Thank you!
Daryll Byrne is off again - this time he's doing a triathlon! Run, bike, swim Daryll ... and thank you!

If you've been out and about at summer fetes and festivals across the county, you may have spotted Glad Turnings Woodturning and Erewash Valley Woodturners Association behind their lathes, creating the most amazing wooden objects. They've also been fundraising for us too for the 2nd year running. Many thanks - I think you've had a better summer than last year! You can visit their page here:

Here's one for you adventurous people! I've been asked by Rachael (Alice's mum) to look into organising a sponsored abseil next year. If I did - would you be interested?
We're delighted to be chosen as one of the charities to benefit from the annual Angel Ball  which is on Saturday 30th November 2013 at Colwick Hall.  Tickets are priced at £80 (including VAT) and are available on an individual basis or by the table (between 8 and 12 people per table). email kerry@big-table.co.uk
Thank you to our funders, our supporters (and those putting themselves through some grueling events to raise money for us), our volunteers (Caroline, Miriam and Sarah), our ambassadors (Tony Bates, Jackie Clark, Ron Glen, Len Simmonds, Maggie Ross and Chris Theobald) our hugely supportive parents and their families and friends... and our trustees - you are really helping to make a difference.

Please grasp any opportunity you can to help us raise the funds we need to keep going. It costs approximately £40 to provide a life-changing session for one child and their parent, so we need lots of money please!

Would you shave off all your hair to raise funds for us? Ashton's mum Claire did!! Claire is raising funds to help pay for rubber flooring for our new play area and she has more planned! http://www.justgiving.com/claire-carlin1
Claire's partner Kevin will be braving-it too - see what he's doing here:

What can we say? Andy Smith's 'not so slow' Snailblazers set themselves an adventurous target of £5,000 for their challenge to walk the Windermere Way. Not only did they do it (complete with numerous blisters) they also raced ahead of target and raised £9,124!! Thanks so much to all the team and your supporters too.
The Bridge at Gamston organised a family fun-day for SfP over the August Bank Holiday and raised £265. Huge thanks to Amy, Eddie, Sarah, Sally and all the staff for choosing us as their charity and for making it such a great event. Thanks for popping in to see us Sally - be sure to come again :)
Who fancies a summertime dip in Lake Windermere next June to raise funds? (I did heard 2 of our mums discussing it.) Booking for places is now open! The Big Swim

Thanks to two of our parents we have been supported by their company's grant giving departments, with grants of £7,000 and £4,000 being donated... and we're waiting to hear from another. Could you ask the company that you work for (or are connected to) if they operate a funding scheme please? You never know!
Our grateful thanks to Boots Charitable Trust for their support
Filming for our documentary on BBCs regional Inside Out programme is now 'in the bag' (as they say). Des Coleman interviewed Janie and Paul last week and we have been told that the programme will go out in January 2014. I'll keep you updated. Huge thanks to the parents and staff that took part - it can be daunting being interviewed on camera but Andy and Rachel, Jo, Donna and Kelly, Janie and Paul and Rachael... you're such professionals (Caroline, Erika and Karen too!) Big thanks to Des, Rob and crew for your help :) Don't know how it can all be condensed in to a 10 minute slot ... think we need a series!!
A girl just can't have too many glam events to go to, so please remember to keep Saturday 26 April free for our own fantabulous Cherub's Ball at Blotts! email eileen.sleaford@schoolforparents.org
