Payman Maadi Brisbane

Payman Maadi presents the International Premiere of
Snow on Pines!

Payman Maadi is the guest of honour at IFFA's Opening Night in Brisbane!
Don't forget to book your tickets.

Award-winning screenwriter and actor, Payman Maadi, will present his directorial debut, Snow on Pines (Barf roo-ye kajha), at IFFA this year. Evocatively shot in black and white, the film examines issues surrounding relationships and marriage in modern Iran. It features a stunning performance from Mahnaz Afshar, for which she won the award for Best Actress at the 2013 Iranian Film Critics Guild Awards. The film also received awards for Best Film and Script at the Awards, so this is one you definitely don't want to miss!

Born in New York to Iranian parents, Maadi moved to Iran when he was two years old. He graduated from Karaj Azad University, with a degree in metallurgical engineering. Migrating to the film industry, he has seen great success in his projects. His greatest successes have come from his collaboration with filmmaker Asghar Farhadi. He starred in Farhadi's internationally acclaimed About Elly (2009) before taking on the lead role in the Oscar-winning film, A Separation (2011). His performance led him to win the prestigious Silver Bear Award for Best Actor at the 61st Berlin Film Festival.

Following his success with A Separation, Maadi started acting in major Hollywood productions, including a lead in the TV series Criminal Justice (2011), The Last Knights (2012), and most recently, Camp X-Ray, starring alongside Kristen Stewart. X-Ray has just finished production and is due out next year.

Maadi's extensive experience across the Iranian film industry in combination with his acting career in Hollywood makes his presence at IFFA an incredibly valuable one.

As well as attending the opening night festivities in Brisbane, he will also be holding a free Q&A session on Saturday 12th October, 6:30pm in cinema at Brisbane Powerhouse!
