Field Trips & Community
MSBG is proud to offer over 13 field trips with different groups of MSBG students for this year. Additionally, we have a number of guest speakers at every level and special community projects, such as the Pumpkin Hunt with the BG Arbor Troop for our preschoolers.
We had a great opportunity to take the 3rd and 4th year students to The Little Red Schoolhouse on the campus of BGSU this wek. This was a hands-on history lesson taking us back to 1875 and how a one room schoolhouse would have been. Some of the students were given jobs like gathering wood for the wood burning stove and filling the water bucket. These were jobs that would have been the responsibility of the students in the 1800's to do before the school day. Once our "school day" began the students experienced a reading lesson from a McGuffey Reader, using a slate to practice language and math excercises, singing songs and reciting poems from the time period, playing games like Farmer in the Dell, a spelling bee, etc. It was a wonderful experience for the students and teachers alike.

Ah, the drama of planning an outdoor event. Mother Nature emphatically rejected our plans to party last Saturday, but maybe she'll be kinder on our rain date. We have rescheduled the Fall Harvest Party for Friday, Oct. 25, 5-8 pm, still at Schooner Farms. Please save the date, plan to dress for the weather, and keep your lawn chairs handy so you can bring 'em to our hay ride–campfire–square dance hoe-down after teacher conferences!
