When I tell people about the work of TWR (Trans World Radio) in Latin America, they often look puzzled. “But there are a lot of Christians there,” they say. “Shouldn’t you spend that money reaching more places that have never heard the gospel?”
It’s a common misconception. The reality is that although millions of Latin Americans think of themselves as Christians, for most it is a cultural religion rather than a personal faith.
Worse yet, a lack of Bible-based discipleship resources all across Latin America means many Christians there are not able to grow in their faith. Without guidance, they are easy prey for an increasing number of missionaries from false religions and for unorthodox teachings like Santeria and the prosperity gospel.
