Budget Day is almost here

and our campaign 10 Solutions. No Cuts. has been strongly supported with hundreds of emails being sent to TDs around the country, to urge them to deliver our ten practical measures that would make life better for families. Thank you to everyone who joined the call for 10 Solutions and contacted their TDs. There's still a few days left until the Budget announcement on Tuesday next and still time to take action for 10 Solutions. Read more below.

One Family is a member of All Families Matter, a campaigning coalition calling on the Constitutional Convention to progressively review the Irish Constitution in relation to the family. Our goal is to positively influence Convention members before their next meeting on 2/3 November 2013 to add a review of the family to their work. You can read more about All Families Matter below and find out how you can be a part of All Families Matter too.

Fraud
In April 2013, One Family carried out an analysis of the Department of Social Protection’s (DSP) Reporting of  'Control Savings’. Control Savings is the internal performance indicator on the effectiveness of the Department of Social Protection’s (DSP) control measures. We found evidence that causes great concern as it shows that the reported levels of One Parent Family Parent (OPFP) fraud have been inflated. You can read our analysis here. You can also read the press release we issued on this topic and on recent media reports fostering the notion of the 'undeserving lone parent' here.

10 Solutions

Adults and children in lone parent households in Ireland suffer more than twice the national average rates of deprivation. We've called on government to deliver 10 Solutions for Smarter Futures in Budget 2014; our ten practical no-cost/low-cost measures designed to facilitate lone parents moving into the workplace, education and/or training. We believe in an Ireland where every family is cherished equally, and enjoys the social, financial and legal equality to create their own positive future. 10 Solutions is developed as a solution-focused response to the harsh cuts aimed at lone parents in Budget 2012 and are changes that will benefit everyone. Budget 2014 will be announced on Tuesday 15 October at 2.30pm. There's still time to take action. Please email your TDs and ask them to deliver on 10 Solutions. It takes two minutes on this link

All Families Matter

Currently the Irish Constitution only recognises and protects the marital family. The goal of All Families Matter is to positively influence Constitutional Convention members before their next meeting on 2/3 November 2013 to add a review of the family to their work. The Irish NGOs signed up to All Families Matter so far include One FamilyGLENMarriage EqualityTENI and Treoir. Individuals and organsiations can be a part of All Families Matter. Individuals can make a submission to the Convention and can attend its regional meetings in Cork, Galway, Waterford, Dublin, Sligo, Atholone or Monaghan throughout October and November. Organisations can become Coalition members. Further information and a sample submission can be found here.  All Families Matter. Your submission will matter.
