TheRide Schedules Public Meetings for
Five-Year Transit Improvement Program

ANN ARBOR – The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) has scheduled public meetings for its Five-Year Transit Improvement Program, which includes many proposed service improvements for Washtenaw County’s Urban Core Communities.

The meetings will provide an opportunity for residents to offer feedback, ask questions, and make sure the proposed improvements will meet their needs.  TheRide’s Urban Core service area currently includes the cities of Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and Saline, and the townships of Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Pittsfield, and Superior.

TheRide’s proposed Transit Improvement Program would enhance existing services and routes and increase transit access in underserved areas; adding more destinations, more frequent service, more direct service, and redesigned routes over the next five years.  In addition to these benefits, seniors and people with disabilities would enjoy improvements to Dial-a-Ride services, such as later weekday service hours, later weekend service hours, and access to destinations like the Pittsfield Branch of the Ann Arbor Public Library, the Ypsilanti District Library, Meijer (Carpenter Road), Kroger (Whittaker Road), Walmart, and Quality 16 Movie Theater.  Proposed service improvements on fixed routes include later weekday service on routes 1 – 18, 20, 22, and 33; more weekend service on routes 1 – 18, 20, and 22; and redesigned routes for more direct service on routes 9 – 12, 15, 18, 20, and 33.

A summary of all comments will be provided to TheRide’s Board of Directors before a decision is made on adopting the improvements and a funding proposal.
