DECIDING GAME 3 AT BERN

NLB FINAL-SERIES TIED AT 1-1
Sunday October 13, 2013 - by Serge Kuenzler
The Challengers lost Game 2 of their best-of-three final series against the Bern Cardinals on Sunday, October 13 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. Things didn't start well for the C's, as the Cards opened the score with three runs in the first inning and added seven more runs in the second frame. And they put things out of reach, as they opened the gap to 20-4 with nine runs in the top of the sixth inning to eventually win 21-4. After the C's defense was flawless in Game 1, they committed eleven errors on Sunday. Only two of the 21 runs against were earned. Yusuke Azuma went 4-for-5 with a double, while Carlos Nepomuceno delivered three hits. The deciding Game 3 will take place on Saturday, October 19 at 10.30am at Bern Allmend.
FIRST LEAGUE SEASON ENDS WINLESS FOR C's

The 1st League-Team didn't manage to arrive in the win column, as the SG TruckStar/Challengers lost twice to the Zürich Eighters Ost on Saturday, October 12 at Dulliken. The Eighters cruised to a 24-3 win in Game 1, before adding a 13-4 victory in Game 2. With these two games the first season ends for the newly founded 1st League-Team with players from the Dulliken TruckStar and the Challengers. Special thanks to the TruckStar organization for the good cooperation throughout the season.

The five Challengers, Torbjørn Olsen, Nick Motte, Ronny Steck, Jeffery Pomuceno and Marcel Zuberbühler, set off to join the four Truck Stars waiting for them in Dulliken for the last two games of the season against their Zurich rivals, Eighters. Lacking players the SG were forced to experiment with positions. In game 1, Nick Motte manned second base together with Ronny Steck at shortstop. Starting pitcher was Truck Star Cedric Thommen, who after two innings left the mound for Torbjørn Olsen, taking themound for the second time this post season. Neither defense, offense nor pitching was going right for the SG and after the game a 24-3 loss was a fact. Torbjørn Olsen, who batted leadoff this time, and Ronny Steck both had two walks (going 0-0) as the only SG hit was recorded by Truck Star, Markus Bolliger in the 4th inning.

In game 2 Torbjørn Olsen returned to the mound, this time to start the game. The rest remained as in game 1, except Nick Motte heading to 1st base. Both pitching and defense was better this game, but it was not nearly enough to make up for the lacking offense that the SG struggled with this day. Four runs on three hits by Jeffery Pomuceno, Cedric Thommen and Marcel Zuberbühler was all the SG managed to gather as the Eighters scored 13 runs of their own. Torbjørn Olsen pitched 3.2 innings before leaving the mound for Timon Stalder, who with one single pitch got the ground ball to departed pitcher Olsen at third base for the inning ending out. 13-4 was the final score that capped off a winless season for the fresh 1. Liga team.
