Showcasing the beauty of the human spirit - in mid air - around the world
.....

"Let today be a day where you take nothing for granted. For life is fleeting, fragile and precious and can change on a whim. Say all the things you really want to say to your loved ones today, say the things you would regret should they pass on and your words remain unspoken. Rejoice, for you and they are alive today - and should you or them pass on to unknown shores, rejoice even more for you have a wonderful love story to tell." - Jackson Kiddard

SABRINA FURMINGER ...
From: I’m from everywhere: my father was born in India, my mother was the daughter of a Ukrainian immigrant and a trailblazing feminist, and I was born and raised in Montreal and spent my teens just north of Toronto—so in other words, I’m just your average Canadian.

Live: I live in the Kitsilano neighbourhood of Vancouver, which was once ground zero for the Canadian hippie movement and is now dominated by latte-swilling, yoga-pants-wearing, beach-loving creative types.

Work: I write for WE Vancouver –
The Westender, a dynamic urban weekly newspaper (I’ve written 75 articles in the last year alone, many about people working in the local film and television industry; this particular community is a passion of mine). I also publicize a small number of arts events taking place around the Lower Mainland, including the super-cool Brief Encounters series.

I pursue both of these “lines of work” (in quotation marks because I enjoy them so much that they hardly seem like work at all) around the schedule of my 34-month-old daughter, who is light and love and chaos and energy. In other words, I get to play all day long.

Q: What inspires you to jump for joy?
A: Where to begin? There’s my husband of seven years who’s been my boyfriend for 15 (and I hope he never stops being my boyfriend) who challenges me and infuriates me and surprises me and fascinates me and treats me like a queen; my daughter who is gorgeous and smart and completely bonkers; my parents and my sister and my fat cat named Stan; my friends (all of whom are insane and beautiful); my geeky pleasures; art galleries, 80’s music, London, Alan Alda, and children’s books; falling into bed exhausted after a day spent doing something I love; thunder and rain; dreams about my grandfather.

Q. Your experience doing jumping photos?
A: Picture it (said in my best Sophia Petrillo voice): a deserted Spanish Banks on an overcast morning in October. A young family meets up with a visionary photographer. Joy ensues…

I felt free, child-like, and lighter than air. There was so much laughter: from Paul, from my daughter, and from Eyoalha, who was literally lying on the ground, getting sand in her hair and in her gear while doing whatever she needed to do to capture the best possible shots. My favourite moment was when I started practicing jumps and Eyoalha cried, “Don’t waste your jumps! I’m not ready to shoot you yet!”

Q: What inspires you in life?
A: I don’t want to have regrets about anything, be it love or work. We walk in the future of all of our ancestors. Everything they did brought us to this moment in time. We owe it to everyone who came before us to live the best lives possible.

Q: Your greatest passion?
A: I think everything I’m passionate about (family, friends, story-telling) comes from the same source: love. It’s something that we need to be fully self-actualized beings. Gosh, it sounds so hokey, but it’s true. We need to love people, to allow ourselves to be loved, and to love what we do in order to live life to the fullest.

Q: Your philosophy?
A: “Feel the fear and do it anyway.” I can’t remember where I first heard that saying, but I love it, and it sums up how I try to live my life. Almost everything worth doing is a little scary (at first).

Q: Anything in the world?
A: I’m exactly where I want to be: with love, with family, and with work. Wow – typing out those words makes me want to jump for joy!

Q: What are you working on?
A: Besides my work for WE Vancouver – The Westender (you can find links to all of my recent articles
here:http://www.sabrinafurminger.com/we-vancouver-articles), I’m also a writer of fiction. In 2011, I published a paranormal romance called The Healer. The characters were alive for me for years before I finally put pen to paper. Even now, I am madly in love with them, and I’m proud to say that readers around the world feel strongly about them, too. If you’d like to learn more about my passion project, visit http://www.sabrinafurminger.com/the-healer-intro.

And I’ve got a couple of other projects I’m working on, including one with a similarly minded artist that I wish I could talk about right now but I can’t!

Q: Mini bio, interesting facts about you or something special you want to share.
A: My husband and I met at a castle in England when we were 18-years-old (I wrote about it here:
http://sabrinafurminger.com/archives/390). I think he’s the coolest.
