More about the SNAP Incentives Webinar:

Date: Thursday, October 31, 2013, 10:00-11:00 AM (PDT)

Details: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is an important Federal nutrition program that helps almost 2 million low income people in Oregon and Washington purchase food every month.  It is a critical program in our region’s safety net that serves about twice as many people now as it did in 2008.  Recent technology has made it possible for SNAP participants to use their benefits at many local farmers markets. In an effort to make it more affordable and encourage shoppers to use their SNAP benefits at farmers markets many offer SNAP incentive programs.  Additionally, community supported agriculture (CSA) farmers are beginning to adopt models that allow SNAP users to participate. Are these programs successful in increasing fruit and vegetable consumption among SNAP participants?  How do markets and farmers sustain these efforts to increase access to fruits and vegetables for vulnerable populations.  What is the role of government partners and philanthropy?  Please join us for a lively presentation and discussion.
