When?
Every Saturday at 9am
19th October - 30th November (excluding 2nd November)

Where?
Windy Hill Oval - Napier Street, Essendon

Who is eligible?
All clients who attend their scheduled 1 on 1 PT sessions during the week train on Saturday for FREE.

Can anyone else join in?
Yes, but there is a charge of $20 per session.

How do I book?
Confirm your booking directly with Rikki on 0400 062 875 before 12pm each Friday during the program.

Fuel for You

Stir Fried Cavolo Nero
Cavolo nero (akaTuscan kale) seems to be the hip and trendy vegetable of the year so it is easy to source at the local supermarket. A member of the cabbage family it is definite “super food”. 1 cup of kale supplies more than 70% of the RDI of vitamin C, with only 20 calories! This stir fry is a great side dish to serve with rice and lean beef.

I bunch cavolo nero
2 tbl spoons canola or vegetable oil
5cm piece of ginger, grated
1 garlic clove, minced
juice of 1 lemon
tamari or soy sauce
 
Trim away and discard the central stalk of the cavolo nero and cut leaves into 3cm strips.

Heat oil in a wok then add ginger, garlic and cavolo nero and stir fry for 2 minutes.

Add lemon juice and a generous splash of tamari and stir fry for a further 30 seconds.

A common question asked by my early morning clients is whether they should eat before training or if it is better to train on an empty stomach. This is a very individual choice, just ask around the gym in the morning and you will find people that swear by training on an empty stomach and those that don’t leave the house without a full breakfast. This is what I think.

Most clients, especially those new to exercise, will benefit from having a very small meal before their session. I usually recommend something light and easily digested such as a small glass of fruit juice, 1 piece of toast/bread with jam or honey or a small piece of fruit at least 30min before training. Having this small snack will help avoid a sudden drop in blood sugar levels which often results in clients feeling nauseated and light headed once into their training session. The benefits of being able to train at a higher intensity far outweigh any myth about burning fat in a fasted state.
