Clay Hand Studios

905 R Street - 977-7444
Clay Hand Studios is proud to present Julie Giometti-Wahl’s The Dance with Clay. For Julie, pottery is a joyous experience that dances throughout our daily lives.  Like a dance, the clay’s responsiveness continues throughout the process to when out of the kiln the piece is held and used the first time. Julie’s  pottery is an expression of who she is; a potter making beautiful, serviceable objects in a dance of ideas, processes and desires. This is a rare opportunity to investigate the artistic side of functional pottery. An artist reception will be held  during Art Hop, Thursday, October 3, 2013. The show runs through October.

Presenting work by Benjamin Short - "The Spirit of Halloween"  I try to approach everything I do with a bit of whimsy and fun.  My work is Surreal Fantasy and I just want to have fun.  I want what I do to make people laugh or smile or even possibly scratch the top of their head and go "Huh".  I love to paint but my passion is sculpture.  I am always amazed at how it feels to bring an idea to a 3 dimension form.  I love creatures and morphing them into something else.  Something you have never thought about or come across.  What would a Chicken and a Man look like if they were put together? I also enjoy that I am able to incorporate found object into my sculpture work as well. I have been an artist for as long as I can remember.  I once joked with someone that I was doing cave drawing while I was still in the womb.

"In my time as a photographer, I've experienced close to 20 weddings, a tremendous amount of portraits, sports, events, business, and many other kinds of photo sessions. I believe my role as your photographer is to capture the essence of the moment, in its entirety, in a uniquely artistic fashion. In a blended array of candid and posed photographs, my aim is to tell a seperate piece of the same story with each of my photographs. As such, I believe you are entitled to own all of your photos, not just the ones the photographer thinks you'll pay top dollar for. I look forward to hearing the details of your occassion, and capturing it in a way that will make your memories last a lifetime!"

Our October artist, Alvin Greathouse is not in the mainstream Fresno art scene. He has worked at Fresno City College for many years. His media is: Pens, Pencils, Markers, and Highlighters! When I first saw his many large framed pieces, I was transported to art work that was being done in the 60's! It turned out to be complicated, colorful and totally different than what I had been seeing pass through the Gallery previously. We will also premier several creative artworks by sculptor, Ben Short. Young Benjamin always had nightmares. From his early beginnings to the present day (or night) creatures of the night would haunt him. The turning point came when he realized that the monsters wouldn’t go away. He took charge and began sculpting them! Our October 3rd show will also feature one of our favorite bands, Acoustic Highway. I asked them to play mostly original pieces. These are talented, experienced musicians, who have written great original music. My thought is that the original songs will be at least as warmly received as the cover music, and we should embrace their quality creativity.

Art Hop with Shu Parkes and Lizzie Koder
Join us in welcoming Shu and her "Endeavors" Series during ArtHop in October. "Vivid colors, stark contrasts, and unique textures are used to create abstract pieces of art. Being a completely self taught artist, Shu often uses unconventional methods to get the desired affect. Growing up in a small town, Shu would dream of bigger things and far off places and her art takes her there. Please come and enjoy the trip!" Shu likes to play with texture in her paintings, but uses her own little methods that aren't traditional. Lizzie Koder will be here with her jewelry as well!!
