Reclaim the Power - Global Month of Action

Join us, and find out how to get involved at  European Reclaim Power.

Sign up to take action, and send us news and pictures, either by email: reclaimpower@pusheurope.org or on the website.

European Reclaim the Power

Push Europe and Young Friends of the Earth Europe have teamed up for Reclaim Power - Global Month of Action and bring you this Action Toolkit, for ideas and inspirations on how to join in. It's really important you sign up to get involved. Whether you take a big or small action, you'll be part of a global movement to demand clean energy.

There are many different themes within the Global Month of Action. Here are some key dates when you could get involved:

Summer Camp in the Arctic Circle

We went to the high north of Norway this summer for a week of network building and learning; and to support Young Friends of the Earth Norway in their fight against oil exploration in the beautiful and valuable Lofoten Islands. We brought together 100 youth activists from 27 countries across the globe, including the US, Canada, Nigeria and in addition to 300 Norwegian youth. The summer camp was covered by the Norwegian national media, as well as Euronews TV. There was even a debate with politicians organised by YFoE Norway! To see what we were up to, visit our photogallery! You can also check out some nice reflections by participants from Nigeria, Canada and Croatia.

We're going to the UN climate talks

This year the UNFCCC /COP19 is happening in Warsaw, Poland from November 11-22.  Young Friends of the Earth Europe will be going as a group of 30 people to make some noise for climate justice, transparent negotiations, and the end of corporate capture. Make sure to follow the YFoEE website for more news about what we get up to there.

Success! No drilling in Lofoten

Great news from Young Friends of the Earth Norway: following recent elections and several years of hard campaigning, the new government is not allowing drilling in the Lofoten Islands. While the resistance will continue, this is massive win for Young Friends of the Earth Norway – congratulations! Read the full story on our website

Leave the coal in the hole!

BundJugend Berlin (Young Friends of the Earth Berlin) and the Arab Youth Climate Movement organised a German-Egyptian climate seminar in September to exchange ideas, experiences and visions. They also staged an action together with other German NGOs to pressure their government to drop coal-powered projects. You can read more about it here.

Shell - Clean Up Your Mess!

On August 5th an international campaign calling on oil company Shell to clean up its mess in the oil-rich and heavily polluted Niger Delta in Nigeria was launched. To find out more, read the news story and SIGN and share the online petition. Wale from Friends of the Earth Nigeria has written an article on the compensation talks between the communities of Niger Delta and Shell, so make sure to check it out!

New IPCC Report

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's  (IPCC) latest report, released on September 27th confirms that climate change caused by human emissions is not only happening but accelerating, with devastating consequences for both people and the planet. More than 600 scientists agree that temperatures are rising particularly over landmasses, the oceans are acidifying, Arctic sea ice retreat has doubled, Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets are shrinking and that sea level rise caused by climate change is higher than initially thought. You can find a great summary report of the IPCC findings here
