INSIDE THIS ISSUE:

From our President

The following are some wonderful examples of how our community is working well together and well supported by the wider region.

SHOW- fantastic Ag Show at Nanson, large crowds filled the ground so well done everyone.

CENTENARY – Very successful day as well, showcasing our history, the children put on a great entertainment for us all.

BALL- Very well attended congratulations to the organisers.

COUNCIL ELECTIONS- Councilors have a four year term with half completing their term every two years. This is my last report as President as my term is coming to an end. I am the only retiring Councilor to re nominate and am one of six people to fill four positions.
Best of luck for all the candidates, and heartening for local government to have such interest. Please vote if you have not done so as this is your chance to elect someone who will represent you. Please read the voting instructions as State wide a number of invalid votes will not be counted.

RETIRING COUNCILORS - have done a tremendous job, it’s not easy committing the time and they have been very dedicated. Not all decisions please everyone so can result in upset residents; a lot of judgment is required and you have been represented very well. Councilors have had some big decisions to make over the years and do shape a regions future.
CR Peter Batten has completed twelve years and been Deputy President for most of that time, he has been heavily involved in Planning projects involving Coastal Management ,Moresby Ranges, upper Chapman River Catchment study and involvement  with Port and Industrial Estate discussions.
Cr Bev Davidson has been on Council for eight years and Cr Dave Bell twelve years both Councilors have been dedicated and contributed greatly to building the Shire and representing their electors very well.
I have been on Council for eighteen years including President for twelve. I have been very privileged to have done so and had some very interesting experiences. Amalgamation and boundary changes successfully countered, unfortunately Oakajee upset by the economy, but still potential down the track.

STAFF – CEO change over plus other staff movements take a while to meld into a team, happy to report that its working well.

Regards
John Collingwood
