Marty's Message

Last Friday I had the pleasure of hosting the UWSP Foundation Board for a breakfast in the CPS Café. I spoke with the board about each of our programs, highlighting several aspects of our college that make it unique, using examples of the outstanding community work of our students, alumni and faculty, and giving examples of why and how we play an important role in “Thriving Communities” within our region and throughout the country.

Partnering and engaging with our region are hallmarks of the College of Professional Studies. We have a long history of working with community partners to bring about positive change within the region. As I told the board, that is why we are excited, through the Partnership for Thriving Communities, to pursue our Big Ideas and begin building on what we have already accomplished.

The Point In Common community speaker series is one example of a partnership that started between our School of Education and the Stevens Point Area Public School District and now includes partners from throughout the community. Point In Common is bringing experts to Central Wisconsin throughout the year to discuss topics in education that have broad public interest. It is our hope that the series will initiate a public conversation on the importance of education within our community. I hope you will join the conversation by attending the first part of the series on Brain Research and Learning presented by Matthew Peterson. Admission is free, and all you have to do is register at pointincommon.org.

As you can see, CPS is in hot pursuit of the university's mission through the Partnership for Thriving Communities.
Marty Loy,
CPS Dean
