Hands Extended in Love and Prayer: More Opportunities

Dear <<First Name>>,

A big thank you for all of those who brought items for the diaper bag. The picture above shows the collection at the office of items for Angel's Foster Care. Each bag packed with love, just in time for Orphan Sunday this weekend! Carpinteria provided at least 5 bags, so you all were amazing and it was easy with so many contributing.
Elastic Bandages for Mossy Foot Patients
Sharon Daly, President of the Mossy Foot Project, sent me this picture of her son Kevin packing elastic bandages donated by one of our Reality Helpers for the clinic in Ethiopia. If you aren't familiar with this ministry, check out their web site.

Sharon would have been on a plane today for Ethiopia, but the shooting at LAX this morning closed down the airport and prevented her from leaving. Sharon will be in Ethiopia for 5 weeks. Please pray for a safe and fruitful journey.
Hygiene Items for Mexican Medical
This month we have another opportunity to help Steve and Jan Crews and Mexican Medical Ministries with a health fair on Dec. 7 in Tijuana.  Mexican Medical comes along side local churches to provide health services, while members of the local churches pray and share the gospel with those who come. Each person who attends the health fair gets a free lunch (hot dog and drink) and receives a small bag of
hygiene items to take home, including some or all of the following:
  • Individually wrapped toothbrush
  • Travel size toothpaste
  • Comb
  • Travel size shampoo, conditioner, lotion
  • Bars of soap (any size)
Jan also requested large bottles of hand sanitizer, used by all who help serve at the event.

If you have travel items or want to purchase and donate items, a box will be by the missions table. Ask your friends who travel if they have collected a bunch of the smaller items and bring them!  Most of us have a stash somewhere. Ask your dentist to donate toothbrushes and toothpaste.

We will be sewing small cloth bags to hold the items, like the one in this picture. The cloth bags are reusable and will enhance the value of the gift. Barbara Cordero is going to be heading up the sewing. If you would like to join a "sewing party" or want to make bags on your own contact me. We will also be scheduling a time to thread drawstrings through the bags and fill them with items. If you would like to help with that, let me know also and I'll send you details. I'm thinking that Saturday, Nov. 30 would be a good time to do this.

Visiting Shut-Ins
Another potential area of ministry is visiting shut-ins and elderly. Both Marion Smith and Normal Soll are at Mission Terrace, 623 W Junipero St, Santa Barbara. Marion is pretty weak but Norma loves visitors. She may not remember everything about you, but she lights up when you talk about the Bible with her...today she got out her Bible and showed me all the scriptures she had underlined in the book of Isaiah. We talked about how "the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the water fills the sea" (Is 11:9). She has stored up true treasures in heaven.

Let me know if you have any questions, if you would like to help with sewing and filling bags, or if you have any other ideas for serving.

Helen
