3 New Cria

Healthy, Happy Playmates: Three healthy babies were born in October. Chika's baby was born bright and early in the morning. She was a very pleasant discovery. She is pictured above and is named Peaceful Willow. Baby #2 was born at noon the same day. Another healthy little girl for mom Julianna. We are still deciding on a name. About a week later baby #3 was born to first-time mom Shakira. He hasn't been named yet. Shakira is turning out to be such a great mom that she was letting the other crias nurse! This was causing a bit of a weight stall for her own cria so we quickly moved the first two baibes and their moms back to the general population. This litle boy quickly shot up in weight and is growing like a weed.

Fall Fest

Generous Donations:  Thank you to everyone who came out to the 2nd Annual Fall Fest and donated to the Catawba Springs Elementary School's Guided Reading Program. Our visitors donated almost $900 to the program! This will go a long way to help the school with book purchases and teacher training. Thank you to the PTO volunteers that collected the donations, to friends and family that helped us make the day go smoothly, and thank you to the vendors and our live band. It was a success and we could not have done it without you.

Royal Alpaca Challenge

Success and Fun: The first show of the season is under our belt. We travelled to Atlanta, GA for the Royal Alpaca Challenge. Thunder's Quintessa earned 2nd place in her age/color class. We are hopeful she is off to as successful a show season as she had last year. We also took Zen Master. This was his first time in the ring and this gentle and statuesque boy took a 1st place for his age/color. We are thrilled and look forward to the next 2 shows in November.

Maremmas

Livestock Guardian Dogs: We get a lot of questions about the dogs that live with our alpacas. These big, beautiful dogs are called Maremmas. They are an Italian livestock guardian dog (LGD). They bond from a very young age to the alpacas and see themselves as part of the herd. They protect the alpacas primarily by acting as a deterrent, but if necessary they will physically defend the herd. They are smart, alert, and invaluable employees of our farm. Gwen and Parker are pictured.
