A round-up of the 2013 league
nymbo : north yorkshire mountain bike orienteers
Dear <<First Name>>

The 2013 NYMBO League got off to a difficult start with the cancellation of the Pocklington event due to the adverse weather conditions. However, that wasn't a sign of things to come as all the events between April and October all had pretty good weather conditions - which makes all the difference when you're riding across the North Yorkshire Moors. It might look wet in this picture of control 56 at the Masham event last Saturday, but it was a decent day for riding!

Final Event & League Positions
Masham was the final NYMBO League event for 2013, you can find the final league table here. You can read the planners and organisers comments, and also have a look at the full map with controls.
Congratulations to all the winners in each category, and thank to all of you who came along to an event this year. Winners all took away prizes from our sponsors this year - Richardson Cycles and the Yorkshire Dales Brewing Company - please do support them if you get the opportunity. Some winners were lucky enough to winners in the overall BMBO National Leagues and took away a further haul of prizes - full details on the BMBO website. Remember you get some great discounts from the BMBO sponsors with your membership.

We've also had good feedback about our feature this year of publishing the map without controls a few days before the event, and then making the map with controls available shortly after the event. It's likely we'll do this again next year - and any feedback you have would be welcome about the timing or formats.

Favourite event pollFavourite event poll
If you rode in an event this year, then you can vote in our annual poll of favourite events here. Currently, this year's two forest events - Dalby and Cropton - are out in front which might suggest that we should try to have more forest events in the calendar next year. Please do vote - even if you only came to 1 or 2 events, it's helpful for planning purposes to know what events are popular.

A big thank you!
Our events only take place thanks to the hard work by the planners for each of the events, and a big thank you is due to all of them:
NYMBO: Dave Evans (Pocklington); Dave Lloyd (Cropton); Graham Fielding (Ingleton); Steve Willis (Swaledale); Chris Wildman (Malham); Steve Roberts & Karen Clark (Ampleforth); Ralph & Chris Defty (Dalby); David Day (Masham).
NEMBOS: Martin Edwards (Allendale); Conrad & Jill Ellison (Kildale); Neil Hymer (Hamsterley); Steve Watson (Wark)

Maps for every event were done by Jens Strain and these make a huge contribution to the professionalism of our events, we often get comments about the quality of our maps compared with other events.

All of the events only happen because Steve Willis puts in his time and energy to ensuring there is a great league for us all to participate in during the year. Steve always goes out of his way to thank everyone involved, but he's done a fantastic job once again this year. (And helpfully, because Steve hasn't written the email this time around, I can acknowledge Steve in this email!).

Moors Marathon routes and descriptions

We had great weather and riding conditions for this years Moors Marathon, and we'll be running the event again next year. However, if you want to get out on a decent ride in the North York Moors then the four routes are a great riding choice. The complete maps and descriptions for this years Moors Marathon are now on the website, but they're not publicly available - you'll need to use the password nymbo2013 to get access. You'll find the information here or under the Events menu on the webpage.

MSc
Last year we included a link to a questionnaire for an MSc dissertation project being completed by Matthew Fitzgerald on mountain bikers riding preferences - including a comparison of trail centres and public rights of way. Matthew has published his results, with a summary and the full document (25MB) both available online. If you need further information you can contact Matthew here

Winter events
Our first Winter MBO event will start between 9.30 and 10.30 at the Dales Bike Centre in Grinton on Saturday 30th November before the BMBO AGM which starts at 2pm. The revised flier for this event is available here. Two further NYMBO winter events to follow in January near Harrogate and February near York. Further details later.

Next year....
There will be 11 events in the 2014 NYMBO league and I have had offers to plan 5 of them already. Please let me know if you want to volunteer or if you have any opinions on areas, dates, lengths. The calendar is extended from nine events to eleven following the decision not to stage a full NEMBOS league next year.

For those of you interested in a serious biking challenge, Steve is also planning both the OMM Bike events next year. They are in Northeast England on May 3rd/4th and the Northern England on September 6th/7th.

Around three hundred people came to an event this year, and your thoughts on what we could do to encourage people to compete in more of the league events. Please do let me know by replying to this email. Further details on next years events and an explanation of the proposed handicap scoring system for the league will follow in due course.

Thanks for supporting mountain bike orienteering in Yorkshire and the Northeast this year!
