Chamber’s Christmas Marketplace
Here’s a chance to capture additional end-of-year sales by providing your promotional offerings to Chamber members to purchase in December. The Chamber’s Christmas Marketplace will make a list available in early December so members can purchase seasonal offerings from other members at a favourable discount.
Ideally, the special offers and promotional pricing should be better than what is offered to the general public. As a member, you can participate as a buyer or seller and also barter your products and services. To buy or trade, members will be encouraged to contact other members directly who are specified on the list.
This interactive approach is the main aim of Chamber’s Christmas Marketplace, giving members an opportunity to network, interact and do business with each other. Read more.
Member Profile: Martin Taylor
Director, We Deliver Change
Most people don't like change. Some do all they can to avoid it even though repeating the same processes doom them to failure. Einstein's old dictum about insanity springs to mind. This month's Member Profile shines on Martin Taylor, Director of We Deliver Change, who provides expert skills and experience to help organisations manage change while staying sane and prosperous. We caught up with Martin to learn how organisations can be successful living with and embracing IT-enabled change. Read more.
The Equality Act became law in 2010 to address a range of discriminatory issues in the workplace. Part of the Act covers the rights of disabled workers and effectively subsumes The Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
One aim of the legislation is to stop employers unfairly discriminating against employees with disabilities. In other words, employees with disabilities are encouraged to apply for jobs for which they are suitably qualified and able, and employers should look to employ them. Read more.

Chambers Meet in Cheltenham
Update by Kevin Daws
In October Cheltenham Chamber of Commerce hosted a well-attended meeting of representatives from local Chambers of Commerce across Gloucestershire.
“This was a very positive and encouraging meeting where we all agreed to work together across Gloucestershire, Michael Ratcliffe (right), Chief Executive of Cheltenham Chamber of Commerce commented. “We agreed that the benefits of working together should not be under estimated whilst a synergy of attending each other’s’ events can only be beneficial. Examples of this is the Business Seminars currently being run by Cheltenham Chamber of Commerce. We also agreed to share information, encourage and support the formation of new Chambers and to work in partnership with GFirst LEP. We have agreed there would be a further meeting later November."
For further information and comment please contact Michael Ratcliffe on 01242 544549. Read more.

Christmas 2013 Hamper Scamper Appeal is launched
Christmas 2013 Hamper Scamper Appeal is launched.
With higher numbers of people falling on hard times during 2013, this year's Hamper Scamper Appeal needs even more support from individuals, organisations, schools and corporate groups.
Relying on the generosity of donors and volunteers, in 2012 the scheme provided gifts and food valued at an estimated £28,900! CCP was also able to support other charities and statutory services, in touch with vulnerable individuals and families. This meant that for the first time the charity's reach went beyond the people they support.
To make food donations by 30th November, please contact Chris Knight at CCP on 01242 228999 ext 123. Read more.

Successful Networking Event at Manor by the Lake
Update by Jon Leamon, Deputy CEO
On Thursday 10th October we invited all Cheltenham based businesses to the Manor by the Lake to “Meet the Chamber”. The evening provided a chance for everyone to see what we do for our members and how they benefit from their association with the Chamber. More than 80 business people (mostly non-members) attended and enjoyed canapés, drinks and a wonderful venue for networking. Several of the non-members have already seen the benefits and have signed up to join us. We expect many more to follow. A prize draw was held on the evening and the winner was Peter Raybould of long-standing member, Willans Solicitors. The Chamber would like to thank Manor by Lake for their continued support and generous hospitality. (top, l to r: Jon Leamon, Chamber Deputy CEO; Peter Raybould, Willans LLP; Michael Ratcliffe, Chamber CEO; and David Emery, Sales and Marketing Manager, Manor by the Lake).
