Semantic Web Company - Newsletter
28/10/13

Dear Subscriber !

In recent months, trend scouts have perceived especially one topic forging ahead: Linked Data Quality. As the Semantic Web is no longer an academic-only playground and finds its way into business applications, questions of trust, provenance, quality and sustainability are getting more and more relevant.

This issue of our newsletter is dedicated to this topic, with own developments (qSKOS as part of latest PoolParty release) and interesting findings and statements from others too.

With best regards,
Thomas Thurner

SKOS thesaurus quality management with qSKOS

With qSKOS it becomes possible to measure the quality of SKOS vocabularies and, most importantly, qSKOS supports thesaurus managers to achieve very high thesaurus quality. At the beginning of 2013 SWC started to integrate qSKOS into PoolParty Suite. Now the implementation is ready to be used.

Provenance in Linked Data

Data published on the Web has no inherent truth, yet its quality can often be assessed based on its provenance. A paper published by Vladimiro Sassone (and others) introduces a new approach to provenance for Linked Data.

Open Data Census assesses the state of open government data

An increasing number of governments have now committed to open up data. But what kind of data is this and in which format? Which countries, regions and cities are the most advanced and which are lacking in relation to open data? The Open Data Census has been developed by the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN) to assist in answering these questions and assess the state of open data around the world.
