Young Americans to Congress:
"Support Anti-Government Spying Legislation"

Youth Support for the USA FREEDOM Act Grows

WASHINGTON, DC—Yesterday, a bipartisan coalition of congressmen introduced anti-government surveillance legislation in response to months of reports on the National Security Agency's unlawful spying on citizens.

The USA FREEDOM Act,
H.R. 3361, reforms parts of the USA PATRIOT Act, which many Americans have long questioned, to bar the federal government from collecting Americans' telephone records and internet activity without a proper search warrant.

A Pew Research/ Washington Post
poll in June found that young Americans (18-29) had the highest level of disapproval over the NSA's phone surveillance program of any age group.

"We commend Reps. Justin Amash, John Conyers, Jim Sensenbrenner and all the other cosponsors who listened to the American people on this important 4th Amendment issue," Alyssa Farah, YAL Director of Communications, said.

"Young Americans, whether they fall on the Right or Left politically, care about civil liberties and privacy," Farah said.

A comparable version of the House bill was introduced in the Senate by Patrick Leahy.

This past week Young Americans for Liberty participated in the "Stop Watching Us" rally in Washington, D.C.
