Tech-Girl Monthly: November 2013

Wearable electronics are getting a lot of buzz these days from the futuristic Google Glass to DIY crafters lighting up their creations. The current Tech-Girls focus is exploring the human computer interaction of wearable electronics through hands-on projects. Eileen Krepkovich, a local mentor, is also sharing with the girls a project she is working on to create a wearable LED-based heart rate monitor for amputees. The High-Low Tech research group at MIT believes "the future of technology will be largely determined by end-users who will design, build and hack their own devices." Tech-Girls is empowering girls to be an integral part of that future.
Are you ready to become a mentor or provide an internship opportunity to a tech-girl? Can you help us get the word out or cater an event? However you would like to get involved, we need you!

The Hour of Code movement has a goal to introduce coding to 10 million people during the week of December 9. Tech-Girls is partnering with many local organizations to bring the Hour of Code to Charlottesville!  Be sure to check the Tech-Girls Events page for the latest updates on the Hour of Code activities.
