Talks to Watch

Max Temkin: Co-creator of Cards Against Humanity

Max Temkin says the advice, "Do what makes you happy" is bullsh*t. He tells us why and speaks on the stuff we build and how that's related to the things we believe.

Learn to fall. Fall to learn.
Ole Tillmann believes that storytelling and play share the same DNA. He speaks on the parallels between the two and how they are vital to our work and to our lives.

Playing is a serious game.

It's time to play.

In September, we connected over the topic of "Connect" from Austin to Amsterdam. This past month we played around with the concept of "Play," a theme chosen by our Auckland organizer Jade Tang and her team and illustrated by Auckland-based James Stewart.

But this month was not all fun and games. In New York, Darrell Hammond gave a moving talk on why he has dedicated his life to give kids the childhood they deserve—founding KaBOOM! to create playgrounds in neighborhoods where children have nowhere to play.

Other speakers like Ole Tillmann in Berlin looked to children as an example of how adults need to integrate more play into their day to day lives. "Why is that children are so much better at play than adults?" Shuan Huberts asked at our Vancouver event. "When did we become so serious?" After watching a few talks from this month, one thing is clear: Whether a child or adult, play is an important tool for all of us.

To follow along with talks to watch and other creative miscellany, check out our new shiny blog or subscribe to our feed. Book worm? We just launched monthly booklists with Designers & Books to bring you themed lists with books chosen by the creative community. You can recommend some, too!

Oh, and get out and play!
