UHNA General Meeting - Elections

Elections will be held at the next UHNA General Membership Meeting on Monday, November 11 at 7:00 PM at Defoor Centre. If the new bylaws are approved (see below), the following executive and sub-committee positions will be nominated and voted upon at the meeting:
  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Land Use/Planning
  • Beautification/Park
  • Membership
  • Social/Welcome
  • Playgroup
  • Communications
  • Traffic/Safety
  • Elections
If you would like to run for any of these positions or have questions, please email Wyatt Gordon (wyattgordon926@gmail.com) or Kristin Olson (kristinolson08@gmail.com).  We also need people to serve on the subcommittees, so please keep that in mind if you are interested in getting involved but not as a chair of a subcommittee.  Descriptions of the subcommittees and responsibilities provided by the proposed bylaw amendment can be found here.  The current bylaws can be found here.

UHNA Bylaws Update

Earlier this year, the UHNA membership voted to create an ad hoc Bylaws Committee to conduct a comprehensive review of the Underwood Hills Neighborhood Association Bylaws. The members of the Committee recognized the need to update the bylaws in order to ensure that the UHNA is operated in a fair and efficient manner. However, the Committee also expressed their appreciation for the simplicity of the current bylaws and resolved to make only the changes necessary to accomplish this goal.

The Committee presented its recommendations to the UHNA membership at the September 9th General Meeting, and the membership voted to include the recommended amendments on the agenda for the November 11th General Meeting.

You can find out more about the proposed bylaw revision here.

Keep UH Beautiful (and safe!)

Please remember that it is your responsibility to maintain trees and shrubbery on your property that impede into the street or block the line of sight. If you have trees or shrubs that impact the flow of traffic in front of your home, please cut them back. There are several areas in the neighborhood where this is a big issue.

We will be asking the city to come out and issue warnings and citations, as in many areas, this is causing dangerous traffic patterns as drivers swerve to avoid the branches or cannot see into oncoming traffic at a corner. The city has already cut down some large plants at Volberg and Harper that were causing issues. Please also maintain your curb by cleaning leaves and other yard debris as it piles up, especially now that we are entering the fall season.

Senior Dinner Deliveries

Thank you to Tawn Chi and family and Chef Ron Horgan of Berkeley Park, as well as the volunteers who helped prepare and deliver meals to our senior neighbors in Underwood Hills and Berkeley Park earlier this month. Thirteen seniors in Underwood Hills received hot, home cooked meals and a vase with a rose sponsored by Florist Atlanta.

The next Senior Dinner will be in the spring. Please contact Tawn Chi (tc@tcproperties.net) if you'd like to volunteer with this wonderful event or if you are a senior 60+ who would like to be part of the "Senior Playgroup." This is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors and give back. The seniors are so appreciative and look forward to this twice a year! We'll also post on Nextdoor and the eNewsletter the date of the spring dinner. Thank you again to all involved!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!  If you do not want trick-or-treaters tomorrow night, remember to turn off your porch lights.  Parents, please make sure your little ghouls and goblins respect this.  If you have to be out on the streets in a vehicle, take extra precautions as our children hit the streets in search of their sweet treats!  Have fun and be safe!
