Assistant Director Brett Martin worked with Debbie Robinson of HoustonFest to organize JAM kids, JAM graduates and other Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina youth acts for the Youth Stage at IBMA's World of Bluegrass in Raleigh this past September. This performance opportunity gave JAM students, past and present, a chance to showcase their talent. The stage lineup on Friday afternoon included: Chatham County JAM, Liam Purcell, The Ashe County JAM Club Band, The Loose Strings Band, The Church Sisters, Most Wanted Bluegrass, OldGrass & Tucker Road Bluegrass.

2 Teacher Workshops coming up in November
The topics of both workshops will cover monitoring student progress, differentiating instruction for students, and more. The workshops will be held Saturday afternoon, November 9 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Heartwood Artisan Center in Abingdon and Saturday afternoon, November 16 from 1:00 - 4:00 at Black Mountain Center for the Arts in Black Mountain, NC from 1:00 - 4:00. Participants who are active teachers with an affiliated JAM or YAM program are eligible to receive a $100 stipend. Contact brett@regionaljam.org or call 276-773-0573 for more information.

For those who haven't heard, JAM, Inc has a new executive director! Ed Baker, from West Jefferson, North Carolina, has many years of fundraising and non profit consultation experience. His early efforts resulted in a two-day Board of Directors Retreat where members examined the mission of JAM, Inc and began the process of developing a strategic plan which will map out priorities for the organization over the next three years. Also during the Retreat, the Board approved the formation of a National Advisory Board and revamped its meeting schedule, moving the annual meeting from September to June in order to more closely mirror the fiscal year. Helen White, former executive director of JAM, Inc, remains Founder and Senior Advisor.

We have been working with two community advisory boards in Southwest Virginia to develop JAM programs. Wise JAMS - Norton is the third installment of JAM brought to Wise County by The Crooked Road, JAM, Inc and many other community partners. We also worked together with other community partners to bring JAM to children in Dickenson County. JAM, Inc is always working with different groups to create more JAM programs. Other developing programs include Tryon, NC & Franklin County, VA.

We have two new members on JAM, Inc's Board of Directors. Help us continue to welcome Anthony Edwards of Galax, VA and Ron McFarlane of Raleigh, NC! Edwards is a banking officer at Grayson National Bank, as well as a musician. McFarlane is COO of MedPro Rx, and a musician and music enthusiast. The Board officially welcomed them at the annual meeting and board retreat in September while saying farewell to longtime board members Mark Freed and Rodney Sutton with many thanks to their dedication and hard work.

Board Chair, Pam Van Dyk, and new board member, Ron McFarlane, hosted a fundraiser for JAM, Inc during the World of Bluegrass festivities in Raleigh. This fundraiser, which raised over $5,000, featured the music of Wayne Henderson & Helen White.
