7) Need Help to Find Participants for Focus Groups - Preventing and Dealing with Abuse
I am writing to ask for your help in promoting some focus groups about preventing and dealing with abuse that may be experienced by men and women with disabilities. The groups are being organized by Cooper Institute and the PEI Association for Community Living, and take place next month - in November.
The focus groups are aimed at gathering information about:
-
What kinds of programs help to prevent people from being abused,
-
What kinds of services exist to help people if they are abused, and
-
What kinds of programs and supports we need in the community.
We are hoping that you will help us out by sharing this information with others in your networks, and especially, if you know of someone with a disability who you think might be interested in taking part in a focus group, by encouraging him or her to contact us. Anyone who has a disability and is interested in participating in a focus group, can call Ann at 894-4573, (Toll-Free 1-877-894-4573), or email cooperinstitute@eastlink.ca
The dates of the focus groups are:
-
Monday, November 18th, Montague
-
Tuesday, November 19th, O’Leary
-
Friday, November 22nd, Charlottetown
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon (men)
2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (women)
If transportation is a challenge, please let us know - we can help with this. When people register to take part in the focus groups we'll give them specific details regarding the locations.
The focus groups are part of a national project organized by the Canadian Association for Community Living and the DisAbled Women’s Network of Canada. The purpose of the project is to find ways to make sure people with disabilities are safe and healthy and included in their communities.
