It's Time to Start Thinking About Christmas Baskets!!

We've set an ambitious goal for ourselves to reach 150 families (approximately 1200 people) in the poorest communities with our annual Christmas Basket program.  Christmas boxes include clothing, household supplies, food, toys, and treats for the whole family. Just $25 will provide a Christmas Basket for one family of up to 10 people!!

To make a donation, scroll to the bottom of the newsletter for our new mailing address.  We need your help!!
DIA DEL NIñO
In Honduras, we celebrate Children's Day with parties, games, treats, and presents.  Your donations make it possible for PSS to provide these things for children and families who wouldn't normally be able to afford it!
SUPPORT FOR LOCAL HEALTH CLINIC

We are grateful for all the groups and individuals who are helping us collaborate with the Centro de Salud (Health Center) of Copan Ruinas.
BLANKET DRIVE

Teachers are starting to come collect blankets for the hundreds of kids sleeping on the dirt floors in the communities where they teach. It gets pretty cold, windy, and wet in the mountains and dirt floors can be pretty harsh.

Our goal this year is to collect/buy 150 blankets, which will keep up to 350 kids warm!  We already have 100, so we've almost met our goal!
MILK PROGRAM UPDATE

Thanks to DOERS and some generous private individuals, we are moving forward with our milk program in more than 9 schools... more than 350 children daily!!!!

Teachers report that children are way more alert and attentive, attendance is much better, and kids are healthier!!!!

PLUMBING FOR SAN JOSE CLINIC (AND MORE)

Many thanks also go to The Wildkats Golf Tournament, which raised enough money to pay for the plumbing for the clinic at San Jose, as well as to buy more school supplies and books!!!!
ORANGES FROM ORANGEVALE!

Thanks to a generous donation from the Orangevale Rotary Club, we are able to provide school supplies and uniforms for children who have none.  We were also able to bring a special treat of vitamin-packed oranges (appropriate, huh?) to village children who are always struggling against malnourishment!
Ellen's Amusing Anecdote of the Month...

Things are very informal here in rural Honduras!

I got up early this morning, and had time to do errands and wash my underwear.  I hung everything out to dry on my back  porch clothesline.

At 7 am some villagers came to talk with me about a request.    As often happens, they waited for me, sitting on my back porch , when suddenly it hit me and I looked out back to see 3 men sitting there patiently with all my - ahem - personal items, on the clothesline, flying just inches over their heads.

Where's a photographer when you need one???
