Lea graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 1947, then joined the university faculty in 1968 and retired in 1986. Marty's Message

Please take time to read about the life and interests of Keith Lea in this week’s Monday Message. Keith was a friend and alum of our School of Education and our college who will be remembered for his compassion for students pursuing a career in education. Two of Keith’s greatest gifts were his kindness and actions that helped us carry out the profound responsibility we have to our students.

The Evelyn M. and Keith F. Lea Memorial Scholarship was created as an emergency fund for SOE students who were at risk of not obtaining a degree because they faced a particular financial hardship. This scholarship was created by Keith and Evelyn to honor the many teachers who had influenced their lives, including their own parents. The Lea Memorial Scholarship is one of my favorite funds because it gives our faculty and advisers a tangible way to help students who are in need, and often in crisis.

Just this fall, two students confronted with having to take the semester off, were able to continue toward their degrees because they were awarded Evelyn and Keith Lea Scholarships. Keith made a real difference for these two students, just as he has for many others over the years, and through his endowment for many more in the future. As an endowment, this scholarship will continue to provide the needed support for many more students in the future.

Marty Loy,
CPS Dean
