The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will be closed Tuesday November 19th, 2013 for renovations.

As a result, graduate student drop-in hours are scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (9 a.m. - noon) for the week of November 18-22.  Regular drop-in hours will resume the following week (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 9 a.m - noon).

Students seeking a nomination from Wilfrid Laurier University must submit their application electronically to FGPS@wlu.ca no later than November 29, 2013.

Inspired Change Summit:

Innovation in University-Community Enterprises


The summit will highlight models of university-community-enterprise partnerships. Through engaged dialogue, this eventful day will raise the profile of social entrepreneurship, the creative economy, and innovation in the arts, humanities and social sciences at Laurier.

Intersections 2014: Thinking| Feeling
 

Intersections 2014: Thinking|Feeling is a two-day conference to be held at Ryerson University (Toronto), that will address notions of affect as a lens for critical scholarship and inquiry.  The conference will examine feelings as they blur lines between emotions, bodies and the psyche, opening up spaces for alternative modes of thought and discourse.

Submissions for papers and panels: Please submit a 300 word abstract or up to a 600 word panel proposal including your name, degree/department, email address, title of presentation, as well as a 200 word bio, by Dec. 21st to intersections2014@gmail.com.

My Community: Making an Impact, is an introduction to Communication Leadership, participants will explore their understanding, influences and motivations towards participating in a community capacity.  Participants will further the discussion by examining the responsibility of volunteering and community development. Ultimately, the goal is to reinforce the value of community leadership and the potential impact an individual can make.

Primer on Intellectual Property Protection and Commercialization


This seminar will provide participants with basic principles behind securing a patent, trademark and trade secret for inventions created while carrying out research at Laurier. Best practices related to commercialization of research will also be discussed.

Managing Conflict:

Conversations and Incivility in the Classroom and Beyond


This hands-on session is designed to explore causes of classroom and workplace conflict as well as effective methods for holding important conversations, creating accountability, and improving workplace culture.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • recognize, define and effectively manage conflict,
  • hold difficult conversations with greater confidence,
  • encourage dialogue, discourage triangulation.
