The View from the Deanery
|
|
As you will no doubt have noticed, the weather has turned, becoming colder - and wetter. Unfortunately, it will be like this for the next few months. If you are from the Pacific Northwest in N America - this won't seem that unusual. For almost everyone else, it will take some getting used to.
With this colder weather will come head colds, flu and other winter ailments. While you can deal with many of these by getting medication at your local chemist, there may be occasions when you need a doctor. In order to receive treatment from the National Health Service (NHS) whilst you are in the UK, you need to register with a Medical Centre. It is therefore important that you register with your local GP if you haven't already done so.
It is also important to note that although the St Phillips Medical Centre is located on campus, it only covers students living in certain areas north of the river. This means that if you live south of the Thames in Bankside, Butlers Wharf or Sidney Webb House (or elsewhere), you are not eligible to register with St Phillips and will need to register with a local GP practice. Information on how to do this can be found here.
Finally, a reminder that some tickets are still available for the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday 28 November.

In his inaugural lecture, Professor Savage will unravel "the paradox of class": that overt class politics and consciousness decline as divisions become more entrenched. He draws on research from the BBC’s Great British Class Survey and the public reaction to its findings.
His presentation will take place on Wednesday 20th November 2013 from 6.30pm in the Sheikh Zayed Theatre.
