Community networking in Charleston, Columbia

U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson, second from right, attended the Business and Education Appreciation Luncheon at SWU’s Columbia learning center Nov. 6 and spoke briefly to area business, education and organization leaders. SWU also hosted appreciation luncheons Oct. 10 at North Augusta and Nov. 5 at Charleston. According to Grile, the luncheons are an opportunity to network with business, organization and education leaders in hopes of forming strategic partnerships. Also, Voss spoke at each luncheon and shared some of the amazing things God is doing at SWU. The next luncheon will take place tomorrow at SWU's Greenville learning center.

Homecoming debriefing

Employees are invited to a 2013 Homecoming debriefing Thursday, Nov. 14, from 11-12 a.m. in Mitchell Board Room, located on upper floor of Campus Life Center. The alumni center values the input of all faculty, staff and students regarding the “SCENE 107” Homecoming week. For details, contact the Alumni Center at ext. 5384.

Multiplication Summit Dinner

The University Singers shared inspirational music during the Multiplication Summit Dinner Nov. 7 at SWU’s Central campus. The university hosted Wesleyan pastors and ministry leaders from across the nation as part of a regional tour focused on church growth. 
Also addressing the gathering were Dr. Todd Voss, SWU president; Dr. Mari Gonlag and Dr. Bob Black of the Religion Division, and SWU students: media communication major Emily Rash and youth ministry majors Christian Clour and Hannah Covington. Phil Struckmeyer, director of church health and multiplication for The Wesleyan Church, introduced the speaker, Jeff Shipman, who is pastor (team leader) of Crossroads Church in Columbia.  

Recognizing winter graduates

Joy Bryant, executive director of alumni and constituent relations, welcomes winter graduates, their family members and friends to a reception at the Charleston learning center. The Southern Wesleyan University Alumni Association hosts receptions across the state, honoring winter graduates. 
Graduation receptions were held Oct. 10 in North Augusta, Nov. 5 in Charleston and Nov. 6 in Columbia. Graduates in the adult evening programs from Greenville will be honored with a reception Nov. 18 and there will be a reception Dec. 3 honoring Central adult evening and traditional graduates.

Personnel Announcement

Neal Tallman has been hired as Admissions Coordinator at SWU’s Columbia learning center; he begins employment on November 11. Tallman is a graduate of IWU, receiving a BA in communications. His work experiences include account executive, store manager and sales consultant in media, communications solutions and retail. Please join us in welcoming him to our Columbia team.

Extended Thanksgiving and Christmas Break

The holiday season is just around the corner, so we want to remind you that, this year, the Thanksgiving holiday break will start a day earlyUniversity offices with be closed Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Friday, November 29;  offices will reopen Monday, Dec. 2. Also, the Christmas holiday break begins a day early with offices closing Monday, Dec. 23 through Wednesday, Jan. 1 and reopening on Thursday, Jan. 2.  Any leave taken in conjunction with either of these extended breaks must be approved by your supervisor on a case-by-case basis.

Veterans Day Chapel

Today, on this Veterans Day, SWU will be honoring men and women who have served or are serving in the U.S. armed forces. If you are a veteran or are currently serving, Rev. Ken Dill would like for you to wear your uniform to chapel so that your service can be recognized. The guest speaker for this chapel is U.S. Navy Chaplain Lt. Ronald O'Dell, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
