November marks the 50th Anniversary of President Kennedy's visit to Tampa, just four days before his fateful trip to Dallas. The John F. Germany Public Library will honor this historic milestone by hosting former local TV news anchor Arch Deal, photographer Tony Zappone and former Tampa Police Officer Russell Groover in a discussion of President Kennedy's 1963 visit to Tampa, and the events that occurred on that day. This free, commemorative event will be held Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. at the John F. Germany Public Library, 900 N. Ashley Drive in Tampa.

Unused Business Supplies Destined for Hillsborough County Students

On Nov. 6, the Board of County Commissioners approved a $25,000 agreement with the non-profit Hillsborough Education Foundation for Teaching Tools, a program that collects unused and reusable materials from local businesses. Obsolete office supplies, castoffs, overruns and more from the commercial sector are then distributed free of charge to students in Title 1 schools through the program’s teachers store at 2306 N. Howard Ave. in Tampa.

Hillsborough County became involved in the Teaching Tools program in 2005 as a way to reduce the volume of commercial waste and promote the reuse of business' castoffs. Learn more about donations or sponsorships by visiting  www.educationfoundation.com/teachingtools/home
