Unexpected House Guests
"Senegal and Beyond"

From the moment we set our eyes on serving the Lord through theological education in Senegal, we've always dreamt of reaching beyond Senegal to other West African countries.  And we have had the privilege of reaching outside Senegal's borders through international students attending ITES and returning to their home countries upon graduation. But recently, the Lord presented us with a unique opportunity to sew into the lives of two eager students of the Word of God in a most unexpected way.

When fellow missionaries and good friends Harry and Reidun asked if they could sublet our small upstairs apartment for a month while they came to Thies to deal with a plot of land they'd purchased, we readily agreed.  We then learned that Jacques and Jean-Pièrre, two friends of theirs from Côte d'Ivoire (another West African country), would be with them for the month to help them build a wall around their property.  "The more, the merrier," we said.

Well, imagine our surprise to find out that not only are these two men diligent, trustworthy, hard workers, but they are also both pastors!  When they got wind that Dan's main ministry is to coach pastors, they were anxious to dig into the Word with him themselves.

Over the course of the month, Dan spent many a late night discussing the Trinity, the covenants, and other issues of relevance to their lives and ministries.  What a delight to Dan's shepherd's heart to pour into the lives of these servants of God in the comfort of his own home.  Pastors Jacques and Jean-Pièrre would love for us to visit them in Côte d'Ivoire and continue the friendship and study that began during these evenings together.  We praise God together for the way he dropped two hungry pastors in our lap, and we look forward to seeing what doors He'll open for ministry not just in Senegal, but beyond! :)

On the Family Front
Keeping you Posted on our Little Clan

Once we got Dan's thyroid medication adjusted, he recovered within a couple of weeks.  Praise God with us for that!  Isabella, however, has been complaining of a tummy ache for weeks.  We've taken her to the pediatrician on three separate occasions, and test results show she has worms.  The treatment so far hasn't seemed to do the trick, so please pray with us that we find a lasting solution to her discomfort and runny belly. :(

Evangeline has transitioned from two naps to one and from baby food (homemade, of course!) to table food - she has 8 little choppers!  Our sweetie turns one on December 16, and we find ourselves reminiscing on Christmas 2012 and the precious gift we received last year.  She's a great sleeper, a great eater, and a delight to us all.  She's healthy and strong and blesses friends and strangers alike with her contagious smiles.

Angie turns 39 (for the first of many times!) on December 11.  She praises God for health and strength each day to care for her family, and looks forward to what the Lord has in store for the Thorntons in the years ahead.

This year, we are excited to celebrating Christmas as a family for the first time in Senegal with Isabella being able to understand.  We're reading an Advent devotional together and decorating a Jesse Tree with homemade ornaments.  May this Christmas season provide a rich time for your family to glory in the Saviour whose birth we remember with great joy.  Joyeux Noël!
