The 2013 WLS NSW Annual General Meeting was held on Wednesday 20 November, under the marquee. We were fortunate that the weather was good for this mostly outdoor event. For the first time at an AGM key staff members from WLS NSW spoke about their projects and achievements over the year.
Auntie Elsie Gordon, Chair of the Aboriginal Women's Consultation Network, opened the meeting and gave the acknowledgement of country. Denele Crozier gave the Chairperson's address and all the current Board members were re-elected unopposed. Chloe Wyatt delivered the returning officer's report.
Other presentations were made by Principal Solicitor Janet Loughman who reported on our strategic litigation over the past 12 months and Assistant Principal Solicitor Pip Davis who spoke about our new Working Women's Legal Service.
Senior Solicitor Carolyn Jones described our Legal Literacy in Prison project while Shannon Williams, Indigenous Women's Legal Program Senior Community Access Officer highlighted some achievements with outreach to Aboriginal women in communities throughout NSW.
Law Reform Co-ordinator, Liz Snell talked about the challenges of proposed information-sharing arrangements for women escaping domestic violence and Solicitor Julie Mansour reported on our women defendants project. Last up was Solicitor Mari Vagg who spoke about the reduction in victims compensation and the impact this had on our clients.
