Quimby's events are free! For more info, see quimbys.com/blog/store-events.

In Gene Gregorits’ latest, Fishhook (Monastrell Books), we experience the notorious cult writer and well-known Facebook abuser’s oftentimes hazardous day-to-day life with both humor and a terrifying clinical detachment. Fishhook is the first book of its kind: a literary anthology comprised entirely of status updates. Writer/performer Alan Hoffman joins. To honor of Gregoritis’ "love" for Facebook, we're celebrating Quimbas by giving away FREE GRAB BAGS to any customer who can prove that they shared that evening's event and tagged Quimby’s Bookstore on Facebook. Social media: truly the gift that keeps on giving. Please note: customers must be in the store at the Gregorits in-store appearance to pick up their grab bags.

This idiosyncratic full-length graphic novel published by Picturebox tells the story of Oola, a high school student with an unusual connection to the supernatural. Quimby’s weekly holiday season gift to you is that we're offering a candy cane with a special Krampus mystery missive wrapped on that sweet treat!

This ground-breaking new handbook guides readers through how to win at everything (actually, more like dozens of things) — even things that aren’t competitive, and that you can’t or shouldn’t try to win at, such as eye exams, puberty and apologizing. Quimby's provides copies of How to Win at Everything for purchase.
Please note: this event is NOT at Quimby’s. It is at The Hideout, at 1354 W Wabansia Ave, Chicago, IL 60642, (773) 227-4433. For more info about The Hideout, see hideoutchicago.com.

Novak and friends celebrate Noise, the underground music made through an amalgam of feedback, distortion, and electronic effects. It first emerged as a genre in the 1980s, circulated on tapes traded between fans in Japan, Europe, and North America. Novak, who draws on more than a decade of fieldwork, traces the “cultural feedback” that generated Noise in circulation between Japan and the United States. He will illustrate his talk with rare videos. Local noise artists Roth Mobot and Peter Speer also perform.

Got a jam-packed schedule of eating, drinking and merriment? Well, fine friend, you’ll surely want to take advantage of our sale on 2014 planners from November 25 through December 1! Take 14% off any planner to help kick your 14th year of the new millennium. *Damn Fine Print: Customer must be present in the store for this discount, and mail orders are not eligible for discount. Customers may not put calendars on hold.

Early Warning
Fri, Dec 6th, 6-10pm - Celebrate Krampusnacht with GlitterGuts (arty Chicago photographers with a loyal following) here at Quimby's. Get your picture taken with the Krampus, known to punish children during the Yule season for their misbehavior. Creep out friends and family with photos of you getting reprimanded by this traditional Germanic holiday beast. We're here to help!
