Meat in place
Whether it is dogs or cats, it is time Laikipia was recognised properly, never again to stand in the shadow of other reserves or Mt Kenya. When they are not tracking the high plains drifters, then counting the 17-strong canine crèche, the seasoned guides are equally adept at scoring other predators.
Try this: a lioness tucks into a fat striped steak then wanders off to suckle her small cubs. Now every myopic guide book will tell you that cheetahs only consume fresh meat, well not the 'Laikipia two': quick as a flash they were sinking their incisors into the zebra carcass. They also initially refused to give up the spoils to the seven painted mutts that showed and they fought, inevitably like cats and dogs. Hearing the din and the keening jackals who had also filled their russet bellies, the lioness came back and all hell let loose.
Now then, find me a game drive like that anywhere in Africa ... exactly.
All together.... Laikipiaaaaah
