Dear Educators,
This Thursday, we bring you the second in a series of webinars on the Soviet experience in WWII. Professor Alexis Peri from Middlebury College will speak on the war's legacies across the USSR. Plus, if you missed it, a recording is now available from our first installment, an overview of war on the Eastern Front with Professor Cynthia Hooper.
As always, best wishes and happy holidays.

Political Unrest in Ukraine
Following a decision by Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych to back off from a trade agreement with the EU, 300,000 protesters amassed in Kiev's Independence Square on December 1. The crowd mounted barricades, clashed with riot police, and occupied government buildings. Several days later, thousands still remain, while the president himself has flown to China. Prominent voices of the opposition such as boxing champion Vitali Klitschko are leading a call for Yanukovych's resignation, stating that the future for Ukraine lies in Europe, not in Russia-centric policies. The protests are the largest in Ukraine since 2004's Orange Revolution.
Extra: read Julia Ioffe at the New Republic on the Russian reaction to the Kiev protests. Ioffe will visit the Davis Center for a public event in February.
