Pushing Boundaries
by Erin Pote
In this winter issue of our newsletter we're focusing on a topic that's been near and dear to our hearts over the last few months: pushing boundaries. Do we have the courage to do things differently in our lives and in our work? Are we stretching ourselves so that we may grow our practice and follow the path that we see in front of us? Stephani Roy McCallum talks about the fear and uncertainty that often accompanies change in her blog "Followers Need Not Apply: the courage to make change." When things get loud and messy, it's easy to revert back to what feels safe and comfortable. But maybe there is a new approach. A better way. By pushing boundaries we are challenging ourselves to see things differently (see Staying the Course When Things Get Loud and Messy).
Members of our team spent time in beautiful British Columbia this past month and this is the origin of our video of the month. Stakeholders come in all shapes and sizes with differing experiences and backgrounds. Our team has seen it all - or so they thought - until they were introduced to Mr. Floaty. You just have to watch the video to appreciate Mr. Floaty and his crusade.
Our 2014 training schedule is available online and ready for you to peruse. We sincerely hope we can support you in your training in the coming year.
The holidays will be upon us soon and we wish you all a joyous, peaceful season with your loved ones.
All the best,
The Dialogue Partners Team

What’s the problem with Ground Rules? Isn’t that facilitation 101? Public engagement is risky business - it you don't want the answers, don't ask the questions.
Yes, Fear, giving up control, not having the answers, uncertainty of what might happen if you actually engage with the public and stakeholders are common challenges. Public engagement often means change, a change in the way decisions are made, a change in the way business is done, a change in the way an organization interacts with people externally and internally. Change can be hard, and supporting it when people are resistant, emotional and vocal can be even harder...Read More
