Caught Our Eye
The son of Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) managed to get a prized Capitol Hill internship despite run-ins with law enforcement in his recent past.
Tyler Yoho interned for Rep. Robert Pittenger (R-N.C.) this fall, despite two arrests in the past year, including a petty theft and a disorderly intoxication charge on May 5.
According to the arrest report, Yoho and three other suspects were detained after the inebriated bunch left a cab without paying. Yoho initially pled not guilty. Court records show that charges were dropped when one of the other defendants paid the taxi driver the owed amount.
Previously, Yoho was arrested on Oct. 6, 2012, in Gainesville, Fla. for resisting an officer without violence after refusing to walk away from a fight with a friend. The congressman was listed as a cash depositor in court documents.
The younger Yoho also faced that same charge plus disorderly conduct in August 2009, in which charges were dropped the following February. Alachula County, Fla. and Orange County, Fla. court records also list seven civil traffic infractions since 2006.
"Tyler Yoho was an intern in Congressman Pittenger's office for approximately two months this fall, impressing the staff with his professionalism and grasp of his duties," Jamie Bowers, the communication director for Pittenger, wrote in an email to LegiStorm. "Tyler completed all projects assigned and met or exceeded expectations."
Tyler Yoho declined to comment but did state his departure from the internship was not related to his criminal record.
