Another Amazing Year of Food, Farming and Community Building
With the fields ready for winter, we are finally able to sit back, take a deep breath, and start crunching numbers to see what really happened in the whirlwind that is our growing season! Despite a cold spring, early frost and a flood in the middle, the Denver Green School Community Farm produced a lot of food that fed a lot of people! Here's an overview of what we accomplished:
SCF GREW 11,000 POUNDS OF FOOD that reached over 1,200 people through programs that included:
- An 80 family CSA, which offered paid, work and sponsored shares.
- A donation-based farm stand, which started accepting and doubling SNAP benefits this year.
- The Denver Green School Cafeteria and student events.
- Donations to food relief programs including Project Worthmore and SAME Cafe.
These amazing numbers were only made possible through the support of 450 volunteers who worked alongside our interns and staff. A total of 5,600 work hours went into the fields this year! We had over 800 students, from pre-K to college, who participated in learning programs at the farm, and almost 500 community members attended workshops and events, deepening skills and knowledge related to food production in our community.
SCF would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the people who helped make 2013 another successful season! We couldn't do it without your support and commitment to building a healthy local food system!
