Gratitude
Oh turkey day, a holiday for sitting down with family, eating delicious food and drinking delicious drinks? Yes, please! This year I have so much to be thankful for: a healthy baby girl and her doting older brother, a thriving massage practice, my friends and family, memories of my mom's holiday dinners, god health and sunny weather!
This holiday season I wish you all lots of joy and the ability to stop and really feel it amidst the madness that comes with the season of joy and giving. And don't forget to start and end your holiday to-do list with: "Take care of me!"

Holiday Yummies ...
And of course I have to include a recipe! In the spirit of the holidays I'm sharing my great grandmother's recipe for (my all-time favorite) Butterhorn cookies. One bite brings me back to her kitchen and the tin of these she kept on a shelf for when we visited. There's not a thing healthy about them, but all bets are off October 31st - January 1st, so enjoy! Try them out and share your thoughts on Facebook and/or Twitter #lifebalancemassage #gramscookies
Butterhorn Cookies
Dough:
-
2 cups flour
-
2 sticks butter (salted & softened)
-
1 egg yolk
-
3/4 cup sour cream
Filling:
-
3/4 cup walnuts, chopped
-
3/4 cup sugar
-
1 tsp. cinnamon
-
Mix dough ingredients in a mixer until well incorporated
-
Place the dough on wax paper, wrap in plastic and shape into a rectangle. Leave in refrigerator overnight
-
Mix the filling ingredients in a bowl
-
Divide the dough into three parts, put two back into fridge while you are working the first
-
Roll the dough out into a circle less than 1/4" thick. Slice the dough into thin triangles. (like slicing a pizza)
-
Sprinkle liberally with the filling
-
Roll each slice inward to form a little crescent
-
PLace on a baking sheet with the tail on the bottom and sprinkle with a little more filling
-
Bake at 325 degrees for 45-1 hour (until form on all sides and golden on the bottom)
-
Try not to eat all at once
Be Well!
