Thoughts and products from Afribeads...
These unique and wearable aprons  reflect the vibrant traditional patterns of Africa. The aprons feature an inspiring range of different fabrics, also used to make the very popular wrap around skirts.  Embracing the ethical spirit of Afribeads, the original nature of these styles comes from the talented artisans who create each individual piece.
Maureen is one of the talented sewers who started sewing for Afribeads last year.  She is 16 years old and is deaf.  Her mother thought learning to sew would give her a career and opportunity for her future.  It also gives us an opportunity to experience this wonderful collection.

These smiling faces belong to the children of the Kind Mothers Project who make AfriBeads. These children are able to go to school because of the money their mothers earn from creating AfriBeads for people in Australia. Through the Kind Mothers Project, these children are also able to attend art classes on the weekend led by a young teacher Aaron. There are many Ugandans who never get an opportunity in their lives due to high unemployment and poverty. Having the opportunity to work by selling their beautiful products to Australia has enabled changes to their lives , growth in the women and their talents, as well as the ability to sustain themselves.  How wonderful it is to be part of this success story.

AfriBeads is proudly part of the NSW Fair Trade network group. Fair trade gives an opportunity for workers in developing countries to have a market for their products. It provides better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability,  and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.
