Research for climate policy

IIASA research underlies two major new reports from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the World Bank, as well as climate negotiations at the COP19 conference in Warsaw.

The 2013 UNEP Emissions Gap Report emphasizes the gap between where greenhouse gas emissions are, and where they need to be in order to reach climate targets.

The new World Bank reportOn Thin Ice, was presented at COP19 in Warsaw and relied on IIASA research to show how cutting emissions of short-lived greenhouse gases could provide immediate benefits for both climate and health.

Also at COP19, researchers from IIASA's ESM program provided expertise and research on how REDD+ efforts could help reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.
