THE WHIPP REPORT: December 2013
How important Is shopping with your values this holiday season?
There is no time of year like the post-Halloween consumer crunch, when it is open season on holiday shopping, regardless of the holiday you celebrate. While some are content with the big box experience, more and more people are looking to add meaning to their purchases- or to not purchase at all. Be it a do-it-yourself project, a Fair Trade good or something from a neighbouring store, we have many alternatives to the frenzy that occurs this time of year. If you are looking to learn more about shopping with your values, I encourage you to read below. Many businesses have taken action since the collapse of the Rana Plaza. Many, sadly, have not. Investors are making a stand with the Canadian Investor Statement on Bangladesh. I'm proud to have our name on the list of signatories. CFAX 1070 Radio was kind enough to discuss some of those issues with myself and Canon Ken Gray, as we hosted an evening discussion about ethical consumerism on December 3rd. You can listen to the podcast on the CFAX website where we discuss the idea of a conscious consumer.
Wishing you all a heart-warming season full of community and gratitude,
On behalf of all of us at Stephen Whipp Financial.
